2019 Financial Goals - mid-challenge check-in

So I started this challenge in February and thought I’d check in and I update you on how I’ve been doing. Not great to be completely honest. I think I established some unrealistic challenges for some of the months - but we live and we learn.

  1. Feb - No shopping for clothes: mostly a success until about Feb 27 when I purchased a top (had completely forgotten about the challenge, oops), but I only wore it in March so does it count? ;)

  2. March - No credit cards: well I failed. I had a bunch of birthdays during that month, but my credit card usage was definitely reduced.

  3. April - save $ that equals to date: So although it was income tax season, I still succeeded! What I did is separated the total (465/2) = 232.5 per pay cheque to savings.

  4. May - Limit dining out to once a week: Success! That wasn’t hard, I mostly brought lunch to work and dined out on the weekend.

  5. June - Pay everything in cash: Uhmm yeah, no. So this one was hard because I recently started making meal prep for friends and I buy my containers on amazon.

  6. July - Look for ways to make extra $: So as I said before, I started making meal prep for friends in May and now it has expanded into a little business! This is bringing in extra income every month and I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon!

So now that I’ve put it down like this, it seems I actually succeeded at 4/6 challenges, not bad! In July, I also found out I could use my debit card to make purchases online, which is great because you only spend the money you HAVE.

That said, I wouldn’t suggest challenging yourself so harshly in the beginning. Start with small achievable financial targets, and when you’re at a good pace, you can start the “no credit cards, cash only” type of challenges.

Do you have any other financial challenges I could try? Your girl loves a challenge!
